Chevy announced the official pricing for the corvette zr1 and it is not $165k, but it is $103k plus $10k for the only option to the car. Based on the value and the rarity of the car, i can’t imagine anyone being able to pick one up for anything close to the MSRP of $117k with the only option, chrome wheels and the gas guzzler tax. What are those options? Upgraded seats, side air bags, Bose audio, a nav system, Bluetooth, power tilt/telescoping steering wheel and a leather-wrapped interior. Not a bad value at all for a car with over 630 horse power, that goes 0-131 in 11.3 seconds(quarter mile) and still gets 20 miles to the gallon on the highway! My mom’s volvo wagon barely gets that! Kudos to Chevy for kicking ass! Oh yea, it goes 0-60 in 3.4 seconds and tops out at 205 mph!!!
Tars pitched saturday and threw 6 innings giving up 2 earned runs, walking 1, striking out 4 and giving up only 5 hits to earn his 4th victory. This brings mike’s record up to 4-7. The snappers ended up winning the game 8 to 6. Mike’s era over the past 10 games is down to 3.86 and his overall era is at 5.33. The Snappers are heading into their all-star break.
I attended the New York International Auto Show a few weeks ago with Amanda, Justin and Danielle, Marsh and Maggie. It was a good time as usual. I’m not sure if it is quite as fun as it used to be, but the cars are still cool. Maybe it will be more fun when I can buy one of the cool cars i see (cough ZR1 cough)
Last week I ordered a set of subframe connectors and a shock tower brace from UMI Performance for the Trans Am. After only a week they showed up and I was very impressed. The build quality was top notch and the fit of the parts was impeccable.
Justin and I installed the parts in his garage. It took a little less than 2 hours to jack the car up in all 4 corners, install the subframe connectors, the strut tower brace and do an oil change. The car was back on the ground and we jumped in it to see if these things made a difference.
I finally picked up some new tires for my Trans Am. I went with 275/40/17 BF Goodrich g-force sport’s. I had them put on at Sears in the Danbury Fair Mall. I’m extremely happy with the tires so far. I’m upgrading from Sumitumo HTR ZII’s. These tires were terrible!
I’ll get some pics of the new tires on the car soon, but here they are sitting in my garage… They are large.
Review of Sears Auto Center:
There isn’t much to say, they didn’t mess anything up, but they took 2 HOURS to put these tires on! I got there at 8:30 am in the morning and I didn’t get my car back till 11:00 am. There was nobody in front of me.
Ugur Sahin has designed a modified corvette with completely carbon fiber body panels. Take a look at the pictures below. It’s very different…
You can see some design cues from the c3 generation of the vette. I like what he did with the rear of the car, c3 feel with the shape of the current c6 generation. If he gets to make the 100 he wants it would be 150kg lighter than a standard Z06 featuring the standard engine package of 505hp and a 700+ hp option. This car would definately set you apart from the average joe corvette owner.
People can be obsessed with lots of things. There are a huge number of people obsessed with auto racing, F1 in particular. Michael Arndt has taken an obsession to the extreme. This guy must have nothing better to do, because he built a full size replica of the Mercedes-McLaren F1 made entirely out of match sticks! This is a very cool thing no doubt, but to spend 6 years on this and take up a whole room in your house/apartment is crazy to me, or dedicated? Whatever it’s his time, not mine. Check out all 956,000 match sticks and 1000+ tubes of glue over at the autoblog.
Check out another cool model of the Lamborghini Reventon here. This model is made entirely of cigarette boxes.
Amanda’s 2004 Volkswagen Jetta recently blew the drivers side headlamp. We got in the car to go down to Autozone and pick up a new set. We purchased a pair Sylvania Silverstars because they look like they might be an improvement over the already decently performing bulbs that came stock. We got home with the bulbs and I popped the hood.
I was very impressed with what I saw. Compared to my old 1999 Pontiac Grand am, these were cake. There is really only 4 or 5 steps to successfully completing this job. We’ll start with the passenger side since it was the easiest.
Check out autoblog for the details, but the first production ZR1 went for $1 million! Dave really couldn’t wait! The good news is that $900,000 of that will benefit the United Way charity. Get to support a good charity and get a great sports car!
